The Royal Hotel

Very friendly staff excellent breakfast. Just the room we stayed in room 14 was very tired. And there is a lot of scaffolding outside busy updating the whole hotel. Will make it probably the best place to stay when it's all finished.

Basic rooms but it's located on the sea front. Superb cooked breakfast and the staff could not have been any more helpful. Definitely worth booking if you're on a tight budget.

Staff were really helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Good rashers. Excellent sausages. Black pudding was a bonus. Nicely located. The promenade is still spotless and the walk towards Spanish City and beyond is lovely. Rooms opposite with sea view were being renovated - but they looked as though they will be really nice when finished I have been to Whitley Bay a few times. Tried Premier Inn when it first opened. Royal is much better value despite building works.

Previous reviews were a bit mixed but I was very pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic breakfast buffet in the morning with selection of full English breakfast items as well as cereals/juices plus toast and jams. Excellent location on the seafront with parking directly outside for limited number of cars. Incredible value for money and well worth a visit. The heating wasn't working in the first room I was given but reception quickly transferred me to a different room which was fine. Renovation is taking place outside but didn't affect my stay at all.

The room was just what I needed,the bed was a bit lumpy as im a big guy and could have done with a double,the hotel is undergoing a huge restoration and when done will be very nice within own restaurant and bar,the staff were very attentive and friendly. The area has undergone a lot of regeneration which was nice to see.

We always use the Royal Hotel when we visit Whitley Bay. It is ideally situated on the front and just along the road from Spanish City. The rooms are lovely and clean but a bit dated. There is a refurbishment happening at the moment so things should improve. The staff are outstanding and cannot do enough for you!! A cooked breakfast is also included and this is fantastic!! (Thanks Lee for the extra sausages! )

Lovely warm welcome from friendly staff. Small but clean and quiet room. Good breakfast. Only niggle was the failure of the blind on a skylight to stay down so light at 5am.

Great location on the sea front. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly (especially at the reception). The bedrooms were small and comfortable. When I return to Whitley Bay again, I would stay at the Royal Hotel again.

A lovely hotel in Whitley Bay, beside the sea. Very friendly, lovely rooms. Third time we have stayed here and highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Royal Hotel. Staff were friendly, location is good and breakfast was excellent. Very good value. The renovations did not affect my stay whatsoever. The room initially assigned was not ideal for a 10 night stay, but I was offered another room which was bright and cosy. It was up an additional flight of stairs but well worth it. I would definitely stay here again.
